Welcome to the ReinheitsKaput Series!
PK beers are always about quality but never about following the rules so we are taking some classic German styles and going at them with no holds barred, just a dream of beery perfection!
The Reinheitsgabot is the German purity law that states beer should only be made with barley, hops, yeast and water. The Bavarian order of 1516 was introduced in part to prevent price competition with bakers for wheat and rye. The restriction of grains to barley was meant to ensure the availability of affordable bread, as wheat and rye were reserved for use by bakers. Bascially, nothing to do with how the beer tasted.
First up in the series is Hafer Dunkel. This dark lager style is full of complexity bringing chocolate, coffee and roasted nut flavours through. Super clean after a 6 week fermentation and maturation this little beaut is brewed with low bitterness and we’ve added some oats – #rheinheitskaput – to add a creaminess to the mouth feel. Out now in 30L Keg and 9G cask.
